Huskies are being picked up and dropped off faster than you can say Red Wedding! This is due to the rise in popularity of the HBO show, Game of Thrones, which features Husky-like beasts called ‘Direwolves’. In the show these Direwolves are fearless and intensely loyal, willing to follow their owners into the harshest conditions. Most Husky owners will tell you that’s not exactly how they are in real life, but that’s a story for another day…
The great tragedy with this, of course, is that otherwise great Huskies are being left out in the cold, deserted to shelters or the wilderness by temporary owners who weren’t prepared for the responsibility.
Here are just a few quick things to consider for any prospective Husky owner…
- Do you have enough space for a Husky? They love to run around, dig holes, and just be outside.
- Do you have the patience for a Husky? They will most likely tear up a piece of furniture or two.
- Do you have the time for a Husky? They like being walked, run, etc. If they don’t get to do it for a day or so they will get in-your-face crazy.
- Do you own any small animals? Huskies don’t usually get along with smaller animals, putting them together could be fatal.
If your answers to the first three questions lean toward ‘yes’ then maybe you ARE ready for a Husky! Might I suggest a rescue?
